In 2009, I graduated college with a degree in AB Journalism but I haven’t really got the chance to get involved with print news companies or TV networks. For the years that I’ve ‘existed’ in the corporate world, I’ve always been affiliated with IT companies offering SEO and web content writing services. And that is weird for some since I have ZERO background on internet marketing but this is rather interesting for my employers ‘cause I learned everything from scratch.
What is SEO?
According Wikipedia, “Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s “natural” or un-paid (“organic”) search results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search,] news search and industry-specific vertical search engines.”
The definition of SEO is quite broad since it first came about in the mid-1990s. From the process of acquiring quality backlinks for your website to gain authority in search engines to intricately embedding keywords, tapping into codes into your website and using social media platforms into promoting your site, the process of SEO has branched out and it continues to expand as according to the demands of Google’s Algorithm.
One of the most popular interview questions that I have encountered has to be ‘Why should I invest in SEO?’ It’s a good question to ask especially if you’re not really familiar with what SEO is and how it can benefit you and your brand.
SEO marketing allows small businesses to promote their brand without the expensive price tag of traditional advertising. In this day and age, we are becoming more internet dependent. Gone are the days when we have to sit down inside a net café and switch on a laptop or computer just to browse the net. Wifi connection is basically available anywhere and with the availability of smartphones, you can be online anytime you want. You can be on the road and still chat with your friends using your iPhone or Galaxy phone.
We literally turn to the internet for almost everything. And as according to the latest statistics, Google still reigns supreme in the most used search engines in the world. So if you need a quick recipe for dinner tonight or just want to get some help on an assignment, just open a browser and type in Google.com, type in your search phrase and hit enter, and you already have your needed info. Oh and by the way, the results you see there is a product of SEO marketing.
Generally, most companies hire SEO services companies to take care of their online campaigns. This takes the time and effort consuming of training your employees to learn the process. You can merely focus on product development and clients and these SEO and internet marketing specialists will do the rest. But if you are looking for a much cheaper option, you can always outsource your project. SEO companies in the Philippines provide optimal services at a fraction of a cost.
Online marketing has provided us with a new way to reach out to our potential clients at a minimal cost. And this is an opportunity marketers should never dare to miss.
