First and foremost, I hope you all had a blast celebrating your New Year’s Eve. I know I did–I slept through the Holidays, LOL! And it saved me a lot not just on the financial side but also from the stress of dealing with traffic. Sadly, vacation’s over. And it’s time to go back to work.
The past year has been a rollercoaster ride for SEO as Google launched major algorithm changes that truly had us all on our toes. Ahem Penguin! Ahem Panda! Hence, it would still be obnoxious to say “SEO is dead”. SEO is not dead and most certainly not dying. It just became more sophisticated and very, VERY challenging. From a strategy known to spamming websites and creating junk content, SEO developed itself into a strategic marketing plan essential for businesses, big or small.
So, let’s cut the chase. Why shold you align your SEO strategies with your general marketing plan?
“It’s going in that direction anyway.”
While link building is still essential, marketers should be careful where they plant their links in. Google can easily detect unnatural link building tactics and like the FBI, they check the quality of your backlinks. And besides, do you really get traffic or valid leads out of these junk websites? Based on my experience, you don’t.
So instead of looking at it as a backlink’s number game, see if the website you wanted to have a link in can help you in promoting your brand.
“At the end of the day, it’s all about the leads.”
This just summarizes it all. At the end of the day, the internet is just another platform for the marketer to promote his business. Regardless of how high you rank but you rarely get leads and conversions, I’m pretty sure your boss wouldn’t mind firing the entire internet marketing department in a matter of months.
“Hitting two birds with one stone.”
Getting a story published on major news broadsheets is considered a breakthrough for a start up company. This just goes the same with getting a backlink from same news agencies in their websites. It’s 2015. So most probably, all of the major news agencies have a digital version already.
Collaborate with your Public Relations Officer and see how you guys can team up in promoting your brand and your website. Besides, content is always the king.
